Steven Slater, a profession flight attendant, came to the tipping point. An exceptional flight attendant for over two decades, a passenger thought it was satisfactory to abuse him for doing his job. Slater, at the time a Jet Blue flight attendant, nabbed the intercom, went on a profane tirade of his own, opened the emergency chute on the side of the plane, hit the tarmac and took off. He has been charged with reckless endangerment and criminal mischief among other things.
It is plane to see how much he can handle
As outlined by CNN, Jet Blue Flight 1052 from Pittsburgh landed at JFK International Airport. As the plane taxied toward the terminal, a passenger stood up to retrieve his bag too early, and he was told by flight attendant Steven Slater he had to sit back down. What happened next is not clear, but it seems either the bag fell and struck Slater or the passenger shoved him. The traveler swore at Slater after refusing to apologize. Slater took over the intercom, cursed the cretin, and announced he was quitting. He grabbed some beer from the galley before engaging the emergency inflatable slide to exit the plane. He was arrested later at his home.
Cabin had too much pressure
According to MSN, Steven Slater was rarely at home, even when he wasn’t working. His roommate reported that Slater often flew to Thousand Oaks, Calif., to care for his ailing mother, as he had done for his father. According to the New York Times, his mother had also been a flight attendant. His father, formerly a pilot, had died from Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
The customer is not even close to always right
The service trades are not as easy as one might think, and they should not be maltreated at all. Anyone who has worked in retail, food service or related fields knows how rude some individuals can be. Mistakes happen, but it costs nothing to be polite and cooperative.
